No Room For Quacks In Advertising – APCON Registrar

tioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) on Friday said that it would do all it could, to rid the advertising industry of quacks.
Mr Garba Kankarofi, the Registrar of APCON, spoke in Lagos at the Long Service Award Ceremony organised to honour some of the council’s members of staff.
He said that the council could not tolerate illegal advertising practitioners in the country.
“We will do all we can do to ensure that we get rid of quacks in the industry, “ Kankarofi said.
He said that anybody found operating illegally would be prosecuted.
The APCON registrar said that the council had been able to reduce the number of illegal practitioners drastically in the last four years.
“Everybody is trying to comply with APCON rules now, being the regulatory body for all the advertising firms in Nigeria, “ he said.
Kankarofi expressed gratitude to the 10 senior members of staff that were given long service awards for giving their best to the council.
He urged them to continue to offer selfless service and to always strive for excellence.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr John Iwarue of Daar Communication Ltd., urged the junior staff to emulate the senior ones who had offered exemplary service in the organisation.
He said that everything was not about quick cash or fast money, but what was more important was dedication and passion for one’s job.
“Some people work because of the huge money being paid while some work because of the passion they have for the job.
“The best, above all, is to work with passion, which will bring out the best in one.
“If one works passionately, one day he or she will be rewarded for selfless service, “ Iwarue said.
.Our correspondent reports that the Long Service Awards were given to members of staff who have served in the organisation for 20 years.
Mr Abiodun Aghedo, Assistant Director, Administration and Personnel, who was one of the recipients, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that hard work is always rewarded.
According to him, one should always work to enjoy the fruits of his or her labour.
He thanked the council for the award and advised the junior staff to be dedicated to their duties.
Our correspondent reports that two persons, who are not members of staff, were also given awards for their contributions to the council and the advertising industry.
They are Mrs Florence Chetden and Mrs Vera Osokoya.

VIO HOLDS COLLABORATIVE MEETING WITH AUPCTRE IN RIVERS STATE
The Chief of the Rivers State Road Traffic and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Engr. Akobo Monibo, alongside other executive officers of the agency, received the leadership of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Employees (AUPCTRE), Rivers State Council, during a courtesy and interactive meeting held at the office of the Chief VIO.
The delegation was led by the State Chairman of AUPCTRE, Comrade Tamunoiminabo Toby, accompanied by other executive members of the union.
Speaking during the meeting, Engr. Akobo Monibo expressed appreciation to the union leadership for identifying with the VIO at this crucial time and commended the union for its commitment towards workers’ welfare and institutional development.
According to him, the responsibilities of the VIO remain enormous and vital to the development of a safer transportation system within the state.
In his response, the State Chairman of AUPCTRE, Comrade Tamunoiminabo Toby, appreciated the warm reception and hospitality extended to the union delegation by the leadership of the VIO.
He explained that the purpose of the courtesy visit was to facilitate the establishment of an AUPCTRE Unit or Chapter within the VIO, noting that the union already has members within the Ministry of Transport and other related agencies.
The chairman further emphasized the benefits of union membership, especially in promoting workers’ welfare, unity, cooperation, and professional representation within government establishments.
Also speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Chief VIO, Comrade Livings Denoi, appreciated the union for the visit and welcomed the move towards establishing a VIO Chapter of AUPCTRE, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening collaboration and staff welfare within the agency.
Other personalities present during the meeting included Sup. Stella Jacks and the State Secretary of AUPCTRE, Comrade Okpeyeme Adebajo, alongside other officials from both organizations.
The meeting ended on a cordial note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to partnership, institutional growth, and the promotion of efficient service delivery in Rivers State.
