Atsu To Miss Ghana’s Qualifier With Sudan
Christian Atsu has been forced to withdraw from Ghana’s forthcoming 2014 World Cup qualifying fixture with Sudan in Kumasi.
The midfielder suffered an ankle injury whilst playing for his club FC Porto in the Portuguese league over the weekend.
Doctors have ruled him out of Sunday’s Group D game against the Nile Crocodiles at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Coach Kwesi Appiah’s squad is now reduced to 23 players from the original 24 named last week.
“We have spoken to FC Porto doctors and it is impossible for Atsu to recover in time for the game against Sudan,” Appiah said.
“So officially, Atsu is out of the game.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and will continue to monitor his progress.”
Ghana are in desperate need of a win as they look to close the gap on group D leaders Zambia, who have a three point advantage.
The Black Stars are second in the group. Sudan and Lesotho follow on one point each.
