Sanitation Exercise Excites Bundu Residents
Against the backdrop of the seeming neglect of Bundu Water Front by the Rivers State government, residents have heaved a sigh of relief as the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority (RSESA) has carried out a special sanitation exercise in the area.
Speaking to newsmen on the development, the Vice Chairman of Bundu Ama, Mr Gentle Asecheime said with the presence of the sanitation officials, he was sure the era whereby they lived in total filthiness was over.
According to him, Bundu Ama “is a dirty place that was not good for human habitation” and expressed surprise that the government had shown interest in the cleanliness of the area.
“It is a welcome development and we thank the Rivers State government and the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr Ade Adeogun and every other person that has made this exercise a success” he said.
He urged the RSESA to sustain the exercise even as he promised to use the services of a town crier to enable residents clean the environment on daily basis and not only on sanitation exercise days.
On some of the challenges facing the area, Mr Asechieme enumerated them to include, lack of drainage, water, good road, among others.
He said for the past two years, areas mapped out for the construction of drainage system had been abandon and called on the authorities to revisit the project.
Also speaking, the Community Development Committee Chairman of Bundu Ama, Mr. Christain Abibo, said what had happened was a welcome development.
He said the government through the visit of the Sanitation Authority had done well because according to him, “previously this area was earmarked for demolition and will not take such action again”, he said.
That they have come with equipment to clean the area is a good idea and we promise to compliment the effort of the government by cleaning our environment on daily basis.
According to Mr. Abibo, life has no duplicate, and an environment full with dirt was not good for human habitation. “So now that government has decided to do something in respect of sanitation, we are really, very grateful and we say thank you to the government” he said.
