Stakeholders Slam FERMA Over Road In Rivers
Inter- States Road Users have described the activities of
Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Maintaining Federal roads in Rivers
State as a total failure.
In a cross interview conducted by the Tide, the road user
understand FERMA’s performance in the state, saying that there is nothing on
ground to show that the agency is working.
Commuters and drivers interviewed said FERMA under the
administration of the current managing Director; Gabriel Amuchi has failed in
their duty to keep Federal roads in Rivers State in good and safe conditions.
According to them, Rivers State is among the few States in
the Country usually faced with the challenges of traffic jam caused by pot
holes on Federal roads.
An inter-States commercial driver, Mr. Edet James of Transit
Favor Company said Federal roads in Rivers State have become death traps and
usually delay vehicular movement from the State to other parts of the Country.
He said, even Itu– Calabar Federal road, where similar
traffic jam occurs was better compared to Eleme/Alapojo road and Port Harcourt
/Aba road in Rivers State.
Mr. James who scored Akwa-Ibom Federal road higher than
other roads in South-South and both South-East, said “If FERMA in the State should embark on effective
road maintainance in line with Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi policy on road
construction in the State. Rivers State would have been enjoying free flow of
traffic compared to other industrial states in the Country.
Another bus driver, Abel Eketities also scored FERMA low,
saying that the Agency which is supposed to give uttermost attention to roads
in Rivers State considering the economic importance of the State to National;
economy, has failed to do factice to the state in road maintainace.
