Work To Begin At RSUST New Campus … As Firms Complete Financial, Technical Bids
Following the completion of technical and financial biddings by prospective contractors, construction of academic buildings and other structures would soon commence at the new campus of the state University of Science and technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt.
The Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor on the Development of RSUST, Mrs Vivien Braide, said the bid system was to give all contractors that indicated interest equal opportunity to compete through a fair and transparent process.
Mrs Braide, stated this Monday in Port Harcourt, shortly after 12 out of the 14 companies that sent in their tender documents participated in the open bidding process that will ultimately qualify some to win contracts.
Mrs Braide who is also the Project Director for the development of the new campus, explained that the contractors went through technical presentations of what their companies can do before the financial bidding, stressing that the reason was to get the best.
According to her, “if you are working for somebody like Governor Chibuike Amaechi, then you must be fair, transparent and accountable”, pointing out that the exercise gave room for competition among the prospective companies.
The Senior Special Assistant said the project Advisory Committee (PAC) took steps to ensure that only competent companies would be engaged to deliver a world class university to the state.
She assured that the projects would be supervised to tally with specifications designed by the Spainish Consultants, adding that the passion brought to bear on the assignment will guide them to get it right.
Commenting on the bidding process, a representative of Kaser Construction Nigeria Limited, Mr. Osegale Robert, on behalf of other companies, said the exercise was very thorough and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the entire bidding process.
“This is an eye opener that the government can be thorough, fair and transparent in this kind of transaction, we are all satisfied with the exercise”, Mr. Robert declared.
