Commissioner Urges Scholarship Awardees To Be Good Ambassadors
Rivers State students who benefitted from the the State oversea’s scholarhip scheme have been charged to take their studies seriously.
The Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi gave the charge in her office when beneficiaries of the scheme visited her. She tasked the students to be hardworking, committed and purposful during their studies in Brazil.
Dame Lawrence-Nemi noted that they would only succeed through hard work and dedication to their studies and warned them to avoid unnecessary distractions to achieve their goals.
According to the Education boss, the students would study Portuguese language for six months in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife before proceeding to Brazil, noting that any student who fails to pass the Portuguese language would not make the trip to Brazil.
Addressing the students also, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Richard Ofuru advised the students to work hard in Brazil, adding that success only comes through hard work.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr Orlu-Orlu Godspower thanked the governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for giving them the opportunity to study abroad and promised to make the state proud in Brazil.
Another student, Miss Queen Alabota Cookey, said that their results would speak for them stressing that they would be offered more scholarship in future because of their excellent results they would make.
A total of 32 students were awarded scholarship to study Engineering, Medicine, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Project Management, Business Management among other programmes.
