Speaker Tasks RSHA Staff On Efficiency
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Otelemaba Amachree has implored staff of the Assembly to show a deep sense of commitment to duties to attain efficiency in the services of the Assembly.
The Speaker gave the charge yesterday while addressing staff of the Assembly in a meeting at the House of Assembly auditorium in Port Harcourt.
He said the Assembly will not condone non-challant attitude on the part of staff, but assured that dedicated staff will be duly rewarded, while indolent ones will face disciplinary action.
The Speaker also assured that the 7th Assembly will give priority attention to staff welfare, especially in capacity development.
He further disclosed that plans were on to acquire a housing estate for staff of the Assembly to alleviate their housing need.
The Speaker, who assured that regular meetings will be held with the Assembly staff for appraisal, also promised that budgetary provision will be made for most of the demands of the workers.
He said a committee will be set up to look into the welfare of workers to ensure that staff are given the right incentives to duties, promising to restore the library facilities of the Assembly to e-standard.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association (PASAN) Rivers State House of Assembly Chaper, Comrade Anthony Egoloueze had drawn the attention of the speaker to some of the challenges faced by workers. Some of the issues raised by the PASAN chairman was payment of outstanding allowances and other entitlements owed workers by the previous Assembly and the provision of official cars for workers.
Comrade Egobueze thanked the speaker for meeting with staff and called on the speaker, to also look into the critical issue of staff categorisation.
