‘Back Rotary Club For Better Society’
Former Military Administrator of the old Rivers State, Major Gen. Anthony Ukpo (rtd) has called for public support to the ideals of Rotary Club to make the world better place for all.
Gen. Ukpo, who said this during the induction ceremony of Rotarian Georgiana Ngeri-Nwagha is the new president of Rotary club of Port Harcourt at the weekend said that the acitivties of the club have impacted on many communities.
The former Military Administrator who was the guest of honour at the occasion expressed the hope that Rotarian Ngeri Nwagha would bring her wealth of experience to bear in the running of the club within the next one year. In his speech, the immediate past president of the club Professor Felix Ideriah said that the club during his administration has participated in both national and state immunisation programmes.
Prof. Ideriah also said that the club has provided baby incubators to the Braithwaite Memorial Specialists Hospital (BMSH), Port Harcourt, while a micro loan scheme were initiated by the club.
In her welcome address, the new president of the club, Dr (Mrs) Georgiana Ngeri-Nwagha, said that the club will continue with its developmental strides in the areas of healthcare and community services.
According to her, the club will embark on the renovation of facilities at Chesire home, Borokiri, provision of potable water for communities around Port Harcourt and the promotion of literary through the donation of educational materials to primary and secondary schools in the state while equipment will be provided to promote infant and maternal health.
The new president further said that the club will continue with its microfinance scheme while the issue of polio eradication will be taken seriously.
