Violence Against Women, Obstacle To FIDA Dev
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State branch says, it is adopting a multifaceted approach to end violence against women in the society.
The chairperson of the federation in the state, Mrs. Florence Fiberesima disclosed this in an interview with The Weekend Tide in Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Fiberesima said the approach include-critical mass mobilisation, evidence-based advocacy, capacity building and service delivery.
According to her, ‘FIDA’, Rivers, is committed to empowering Rivers women for effective participation in nation building.
In this mission, FIDA Rivers recognises violence against women as an obstacle to development, equality and peace, hence this campaign to end violence against women and the girl child, she said.
The FIDA chairperson noted that violence against women not only impoverishes women, families and communities, but also lowers economic production.
Mrs. Fiberesima continued that the federation has intensified its efforts to encourage women to participate in the 2011 elections, while efforts will also be made to ensure that women have access to vital position in the society
