Fire Razes Ekeki Park

operators at the Ekeki Motor Park in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, watched helplessly as fire razed a section of the motor park destroying goods worth millions of Naira.
Four traders with different high degree of injuries as a result of the incident were rushed to nearby hospital for immediate attention.
According to eyewitnesses, the inferno began at about 9am as one of the shop owners simply called Mr Intelligent was trying to refill his generator locally known as “I pass my Neighbor”, following an outage in public power supply.
‘There is a man that sells motor parts.This man wanted to switch on his generator and what we heard was an explosion’, says Victor Ebi an eyewitness.
Another motor dealer at the park, Isiaka Amaude confirmed that some traders were injured as they attempted to rescue their goods and money from the flames
However,when men of the Bayelsa State Fire Service arrived the motor park to put out the fire, some angry youths and residents chased them away with stones, complaining that they arrived late after so much damages had done if though they were contacted early enough.
Chairman of the Ekeki Motor Park, Okai Nefigha told Journalists that many of the shop owners lost property and cash worth millions of Naira to the inferno.
He called on the state and local government to come to the aid of the affected persons.
