Bayelsa: CP Reassures On Security
The Police Com
mand in Bayelsa State have reiterated its commitment to ensure secured environment during the general elections in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Paul Okafor, who said this at a news conference in Yenagoa, urged youths to steer clear of being used as thugs.
Okafor said that “the police in Bayelsa is ready to ensure security in all nooks and crannies in the state.
“I urge the electorate and politicians to conduct themselves according to the rules given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). You must stay out of violence.
“The police are also ready to punish any person arrested of causing electoral disorder; the electorate should not wait at the polling stations after casting their votes.
“On number of policemen to be deployed during the elections, we are going to deploy enough of our men and I am very sure that we will dominate every community in Bayelsa.
“The police will also be working with other sister security agencies such as the Joint Task Force, Air Force, Navy and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
“We will also be working with the journalists, especially on making their job easier during the elections. There will be operational rooms to enable journalists confirm their reports.
“Finally, I urge all stakeholders in the state to support peace campaign initiative of the Federal Government, support peace even as we go to the poll on March 28,” Okafor said.
