Cell-Phone Dealers Decry Demolition Of Stores
Cell-phone dealers along Aba/Port Harcourt expressway (near oil mill junction) have cried out over the recent demolition of their stores by non government officials.
Speaking with The Tide within the week, the chairman of the cellphone dealers, Mr Okechukwu Obiemeka, said the demolition has made his members to incur losses.
Obiemeka explained that his members have in recent times, suffered in the hands of some faceless people who claimed to be working with Obio/Akpor local government and other government authorities.
He said that it was high time Rivers State Government came open and tell them their fate in their present business domain so as to enable them know how to handle some cases.
He regretted that the demolition was done this yuletide, saying that his members have lost huge sums of money.
The cell-phone dealers’ chairman, also said that the exercise consumed most of their items including laptaps, cell-phones and other products.
He demanded among other things, a clear market place where they can do their business without interference from anybody.
Obiemeka recalled how the business had over the years placed food on their tables, hinting that it has also created employment opportunities for some job seekers.
He further told The Tide that some of its members are students who are fending for themselves.
Others who spoke regretted the situation, demanding to know why their stores were destroyed as no government work was going on in the area.
It would be recalled that the handset dealers have some time ago, cried out over what they described as double taxation and other illegal actions meted to its members.
