Rivers Remains Committed To Upholding NYSC Ideals -SSG

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, has reiterated the commitment of the State Government in upholding the ideals of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He stated this last Thursday in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers workshop, with the theme: “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers Partnership for Improved Service Delivery.”
Prof. Worika, in a statement by Head of the Press Unit in SSG’s office, Juliana Masi, assured the NYSC management and Corps members in the State that the government would not rest on its oars in aligning the operations of the scheme with global best practices.
He also thanked employers of labour for upholding the principles and practice of the service year, just as he tasked others to desist from covering up corps’ members who do not serve.
On his part, the Director General of NYSC, Brig Gen Olakunle Nafiu, represented by the Deputy Director Operations, NYSC South South Area Office II, Port Harcourt, Mr. Chijioke Duru, described the workshop as an essential tool for decision-making, aimed at engaging employers for strategic communication, harmonization of views and opportunity to explain the scheme’s policy direction.
Nafiu urged employers to see the workshop as a “call to duty where they need to partner NYSC management to articulate ideas that will enhance and strengthen the operations of the scheme.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Coordinator of NYSC in Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe, had informed the employers that the major essence of the workshop centres around the issue of “welfare of Corps members and how to effectively mobilize them for the socio-economic development of Nigeria, and in particular, Rivers State.”
He reminded the employers that Corps members are mostly non-indegenes in their states of service and thus “need and deserve bountiful hospitality from their host communities to optimally discharge their duties.”
Highpoint of the occasion was the recognition of outstanding employers with exceptional welfare packages for Corps members. These include the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry worldwide, HRM, King Apostle Chinyere Chibuzor Gift; Brig Gen S Ahmed, Garrison Commander 6 Division, Nigerian Army; the MD/CEO of Save A Life Hospital, Dr. Richard Okoye; the Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Dr (Barr.) Samuel Kalagbor, amongst others.
