Group Tasks Fubara, Other South-South Govs On Food Prices
A Niger Delta-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND), has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and other Governors of the South-South States to set up task forces with the aim of bringing down the prices of food items in the region.
It said time has come for a task force to monitor and bring down the cost of food items in the zone.
The forum said this recently in a press release made available to newsmen at the end of its National Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt.
According to the release, signed by its National Chairman, Comrade Owoh Udoh, there is need for the Governors to set-up taskforces in their respective states to check the unnecessary hike in the prices of food stuff in their states.
While declaring open the meeting, Udoh lamented the high cost of food items in the South-South zone.
He argued that the current fuel price and cost of transportation is not enough reason for marketers to unnecessarily increase the prices of food items, adding that the situation is affecting the living conditions of the people.
Udoh also commended Governor Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers State for setting up a committee on food security and urged other Governors in the zone to do same.
He also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the Refineries are producing to bring down the cost of fuel in the country.
