RSG Ready To Manage Flood-Related Health Issues-Commissioner
The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, has assured the people that the state government is ready to tackle challenges that may arise from the predicted flooding in the State.
Speaking in Opobo Town, headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, during a sensitisation visit, the Commissioner assured that logistics have been put in place for vector control, malaria and other health issues that may arise during emergencies.
She also harped on sanitation during the flooding as a way of ensuring hygiene amongst the rural populace, noting that malaria and other water borne diseases are usually common and as such needed to be addressed earlier.
Oreh urged people of the area to be on the alert, and ensure they keep their drains and environment clean to prevent any health emergency.
On his part, Chairman of the Council, Dr. Enyiada Cookey-Gam, commended the state government for sensitising the people, stating that the administration is people-oriented.
He disclosed that the local government area has setup a flood management committee with the mandate to manage, address and mitigate flood challenges as predicted by NIMET early this year.
Cookey-Gam said the committee has commenced operations by carrying out reconniassance of the local government with the aim of identifying flood prone areas with a view to nipping any emergency in the bud.
