Rivers Police Confirm Killing Of Personnel …CP Orders Manhunt Of Assailants
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that a Police Orderly was shot and murdered in the D/Line axis of the State over the weekend while escorting his Principal to a function at the popular Landmark Hotels in Port Harcourt.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident to journalists in a message via WhatsApp on Saturday, said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi, has ordered for a manhunt for the killers of the Police Orderly.
The text message reads: “On 25/08/2023 at about 2030hrs, information was received that one Inspector, a male attached to the Department of Operations, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, was fatally shot on the head while escorting his Principal around Landmark Hotels at Oroworukwo, Olu Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt. His rifle and berret was carted Away.
“Patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the scene. Effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover the rifle, and the corpse deposited at Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, for autopsy. Further development will be communicated.
“The assailants were reportedly riding in a grey 2005 Toyota Corolla. Members of the public are warned that checkpoints, stop and search is expected to increase for those on the road to cooperate with police in this regard and avoid unnecessary confrontations with uniformed men.
