Okocha Bags Ikwerre Media Practitioners Award …Says Wike Under-Reported
Former Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha, has been conferred with an award of excellence by the Ikwerre Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (IMPAN).
Chairman of the association, High Chief Monday Wehere, said Okocha is the third Ikwerre son to be conferred with the award since the inception of the Association years ago.
He said since the inception of the association, 132 communities have been visited with a view to documenting their histories.
Wehere praised him for the good work he is doing and urged him to sustain it.
In his acceptance speech, Okocha said the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, is currently under-reported.
Noting that all along the performance of different Governors in the State has been compared to that of the first Military Governor of the Old Rivers State, which comprised Bayelsa State, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, but that there is no room for such comparison with Wike, because Spiff operated under fiat.
He further said Wike has placed Rivers State on the front burner of National politics.
According to him, Wike has within the available resources changed the infrastructural landscape of Rivers State.
He also used the occasion to announce that Rumuigbo has resolved to remain one through the resolution of their chieftaincy crisis.
Okocha thanked the association for the award and commended members for considering him worthy for the award.
Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Rumuigbo Community, Eze Billy Owhonda, congratulated Okocha for the award and urged him to sustain his good works.
He also commended the people of Rumuigbo for crowning him as their King.
In his remarks, Chairman, Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI), Chief Bright Amaewhule, thanked the group for honouring Okocha, saying it is a well deserved award.
