Nigeria Earns Over N73m In Three Years From Water Use Licences
Nigeria has earned N73.6 million from water use licences from 2020 to date.
The disclosure was made yesterday by the Executive Director of the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission, Magashi Bashir.
He disclosed this to journalists in his remarks while receiving the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, who was on an inspection visit.
According to him, the commission is expected to generate N826 million from issued demand notices.
Bashir stated that the commission would continue to carry out regulatory reforms to sanitise the water resources industry in Nigeria.
“The commission, in commitment to its core mandate, has issued 86 licences, 76 demand notices, and re-validated 50 licences.
“We are aware of the revenue deficit in the Nation, therefore, determined to make sure that users of raw bulk water pay the appropriate fees,” he stated.
In his reply, the Minister of Water Resources, Adamu, lauded the commission for the achievements recorded.
“I have always considered the commission essential to the water resources sector. I have demonstrated this in our doggedly pursued approach to the water resources bill, especially in ensuring the independence the Commission requires,” he said.
