Assembly Aspirant Sponsors Football Tourney
A Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant, representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency 11, under the ruling All Progressives Congress, Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, has sponsored a street football competition for his constituent, a statement from his office said.
According to the statement, Oluwa, while speaking recently at the final of the maiden edition of the tournament tagged, ‘SAO Community Football Competition’, promised to bring more youths and sports programmes to his constituency, if elected.
The statement also said the tournament, which lasted for a month, saw Ayinde Street defeat Akere Street by a lone goal to clinch the star prize, while Agbe Street thrashed Uzor Street 7-0 to claim third-place.
Oluwa, while presenting the prizes, enjoined the youths to embrace sports instead of crime, and promised continued support for the competition.
“My appreciation also goes to all the participating teams, fans, the spectators and everyone who was part of the success of this competition. The maiden edition of SAO Community Football Competition, to a large extent has helped in strengthening the peace, love and unity existing among the youths in Ajeromi-Ifelodun. It has also encouraged character development, discipline as well as enhancing their capacity and creating an enabling environment for talent discovery,” he said.
