Assembly Expresses Satisfaction Over Projects In RSU
The Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed satisfaction with the construction of the Faculty Buildings in the College of Medical Sciences at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
Speaking during an oversight function/facility tour, last Monday, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Samuel Ogeh, noted that his committee was impressed with the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, and Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences buildings which had been completed and ready for commissioning.
Ogeh, who was accompanied by other members of the committee, stated that the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences at the Rivers State University was in line with Governor Nyesom Wike’s commitment towards improving health education in the state, stressing that with the completion of the faculty buildings, the governor had fulfilled his promise to Rivers people.
He commended the authorities of the university for using the funds approved judiciously and for supervising the construction of the faculty buildings from foundation level to completion, adding that the state can now boast of a functional College of Medical Sciences.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, thanked the House Committee on Health for the visit, noting that the university was established in 1980 but quickly added that the Wike-led administration had the vision to establish the College of Medical Sciences.
Okogbule expressed gratitude to Wike for his keen interest in the development of the university, stating that with the massive structures and state-of-the-art facilities, the College of Medical Sciences could be described as the best, not only in Nigeria, but also in Africa.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
