B’Haram, ISWAP: Al-Shabaab Funding Terrorists In Nigeria, Somalia’s President Claims

Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has hinted that Al-Shabaab funds terrorists in Nigeria where Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP)were rooted.
Mohamud made the revelation at Ankara in Türkiye during his visit to thousands of soldiers and police officers training in the country.
“We have evidence that the money collected by Al-Shabaab is used in financing terror groups in Mozambique and Nigeria with some going to Al-Qaeda.
Al-Shabaab is the East Africa franchise of Al-Qaeda which is deep-seated in the Middle East and North Africa.
“We’ll shut down these revenue streams”, vowed Mohamud who assumed office in May, 2022.
The 66-year-old President is the founder and chairman of the Union for Peace and Development Party.
For more than a decade, Nigeria has been battling Ansaru, Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Insurgents have killed thousands of citizens and displaced millions, especially in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
On Tuesday, ISWAP attacked a prison in the Kuje area of Abuja, the capital, releasing hundreds of inmates, including terrorists.
The Nigerian government also said terrorist are behind the killings of Christians and attacks on churches.
In Mozambique, a terror group, Al-Shabab controls parts of Cabo Delgado in the Northern region. It is unclear if it has ties with Al-Shabaab.
Al-Shabaab is regarded as the most dreaded Islamic insurgency organization within the Horn of Africa.
Also known as Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, the sect controls some rural areas in Somalia’s south and had vowed to oust the government.
The United States African Command found that Al-Shabaab is the most funded Al-Qaeda partner on the continent.
In a report, Mogadishu-based Heritage Institute of Policy Studies said the franchise operates with an annual budget of $100million.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
