Assessment Team Drums Support For COVID-19 Vaccination In Tai
The COVID-19 Assessment Team from the Federal Ministry of Health, Public Health Department and Epidemiology Division led by Dr. Patience Adidah has visited Tai Local Government Council to assess the COVID-19 intervention provided by the local government administration since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.
Receiving the team at the council’s headquarters in Saakpenwa, last Friday, Chairman of the council, Sir Mbakpone Okpe, thanked the medical team of Tai and the entourage of the Federal Government team for thoroughly assessing the area.
He also advised the MoH of Tai not to hesitate to call his attention, whenever they need any further support from the council.
In his response, leader of the delegation,Dr. Patience Adidah, expressed joy over the success recorded by the LGA, adding that Tai has covered more than 50percent of community members who have received vaccination.
“To my greatest surprise and joy, Tai has covered 50percent of community vaccination. Even with the interaction with community members, I discovered that the community members are really aware and they understand the fact that COVID-19 disease is real”, she added.
Adidah further explained that the Tai council chairman and his medical team have performed in terms of increasing political would to ensure that the COVID-19 disease does not affect members of the community, she commended the chairman and his team for embarking on community dialogue and sensitisation which facilitated huge turn-up for the vaccination.
The Medical Officer of Health of Tai LGA, Dr. Keke Rammyson, added that the visit of the Federal Ministry of Health, Epidemiology Division in Tai was a sign that Tai Local Government was recognised by the work done to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
Keke said the success would not have been recorded without the tremendous support of Okpe.
He further illuminated the various steps taken by the council to create awareness which involves consulting all stakeholders in the area, noting that this has also helped to proliferateCOVID-19 vaccination awareness in Tai.
Other dignitaries, who were present at the meeting includes, Secretary of Tai LGA, Sir Joe Gwezia;Rivers State Epidemiologist, Dr Nwadiuto Ifeoma; Dr. Victor Abiikor;and Supervisor for Health, Tai LGA,Hon Lesor Mascot Friday;and a host of others.
