Ariolu Warns Against Indiscriminate Waste Disposal
Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Barrister George Ariolu has warned residents and business operators in the area against indiscriminate waste disposal and unhealthy practices that violate the state’s extant environmental laws.
Addressing workers after inspecting Rumuepirikom and Rumueme road in the area, he urged residents and stakeholders to collaborate with the local government to keep the area clean so as to prevent disease outbreaks.
He gave this warning while supervising evacuation of wastes in parts of the area.
The chairman urged business operators to ensure that the surroundings of their shops are always clean, warning them against indiscriminate refuse disposal, and urging them to ensure to bag their waste properly and place them in designated areas for easy evacuation.
Ariolu said the council would ensure traders and residents comply with Governor Nyesom Wike’s mandate to keep Rivers State clean and green.
He stressed on the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment by residents and business operators in the area.
Speaking further, the OBALGA boss advised residents to ensure that they bag their wastes and dispose same at designated refuse dumping sites in the area.
According to him, a team of sanitation taskforce constituted by the council would be deployed to strategic points of the local government to monitor the area and prevent residents from indiscriminate waste disposal.
He further noted that the taskforce team would ensure residents comply with the sanitation laws in the area.
According to him, the council would work together with the state government to ensure a proper, neat and safe environment in the area andstate government.
He, however, noted that sanitation workers and taskforce would work tirelessly to ensure a healthy and clean environment in the area.
