Ariolu Frowns At Indiscriminate Waste Disposal, Vows To Prosecute Defaulters

Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Barrister George Ariolu, has expressed displeasure over the continuous indiscriminate disposal of waste by private refuse collectors.
He said, while issuing a stern warning to private collectors against the high level of reckless waste disposal in the area, that the situation was becoming so alarming and worrisome, adding that defaulters would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Ariolu gave this warning during an interview with newsmen along East-West Road, Nkpolu.
He, therefore, instructed individuals and waste collectors to bag their waste properly, and dump it at designated receptacles for easy evacuation as defaulters would not be pardoned.
Stressing the importance of disposing wastes at authorised receptacles and dumpsite, Ariolu further warned against dropping wastes on the median by the roads, adding that several arrests have been made to that effect.
Acknowledging the metropolitan nature of the area, he said that the council has the capacity to carry out successful evacuation of wastes in parts of the Obio/Akpor despite increasing population in the area.
Speaking further, Ariolu called for partnership between councils and RIWAMA to enable easy evacuation of wastes in parts of the state.
Ariolu, who also supervised evacuation exercises in parts of Eligbolo, Rumueme and Rumuolumeni, said he would not rest on his oars to restore sanity to the area, adding that the council has deployed sanitation task force officials to monitor compliance at strategic places across the area.
He also called on residents and the general public to remain calm and cooperate with government to tackle the menace of indiscriminate waste disposal in the state.
