Group Launches Campaign Against Cultism, Other Vices
The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Related Vices (POCACOV), has launched the ‘POCACOV In My Family’, as part its efforts to curb cultism and other vices among school children in the state.
The Chairman of the state POCACOV, Ambassador Eke Onwuka, who flagged off the campaign in Port Harcourt at Adamac Company premises recently named Sir Theophilus Ezeonodo as its Ambassador.
Onwuka, said the need became imperative due to the high rate of bullying and related crime among school children.
He recalled that the initiative was from the Inspector General of Police, Mr Alkali Adamu as part of the police’s plans to have crime-free society.
“Police in their wisdom resolved to use stakeholders to fight against crime. such stakeholders, include the media, entertainers, among others, to propagate against vices”, he said.
According to him, the police knew that they cannot use forceful means to reduce crime, hence, the decision to get stakeholders involved.
The POCACOV boss revealed that some criminal elements in the society had laid down their arms through the organisation and called on government and public spirited individuals to do the needful.
“ If someone laid down his or her arms, alternative means of livelihood ought to be provided in order not to allow the person fall back to his or her old ways “, he said.
He named the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyomie and that of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere as supportive partners in the area of rehabilitating some repentant criminals.
The partner of parenting, he said, could play either a positive or negative role in a child’s life as the children who experienced violence will have a negative perspective of life.
In his response, Amb. Ezeonodo said the time to act was now, and hinted that his was to research and make the needed input.
He also said the issue of bullying among school children had called for a sort of emergency attention so as to nip it in the bud before it escalated beyond controllable level.
The Tide learnt that POCACOV had been on the campaign against vices among school children in the State over the years.
