Wike, Others Extol Virtues Of Mrs Chikere
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike was among the dignitaries that attended the burial ceremony of Mrs Priscilla Chikere.
Late Mrs Chikere was the mother of former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and member of the House of Representatives, Barrister Ken Chikere.
In a tribute signed on behalf of his family and the Rivers State Government, the Rivers State governor described the late Mrs Chikere as, “A warm, caring and devoted mother not only to her children, but also to their friends and all the people of her community. Her death is a great loss not only to the family but also a personal loss for me and for all those whose lives she touched with her uncommon life of devotion to service to God and care for humanity, and which will continue to keep her memory in our minds for ever.”
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, who also attended the service for the burial ceremony at the Rivers State Ecumenical Centre, in her tribute said that the late matriarch of the Chikere family through her direct contact with people and through her lovely children touched the lives of many persons, old and young alike.
The deputy governor urged the children and family to sustain her virtue of calmness, dedication and kindness to humanity.
In his sermon, the officiating minister, Rev Ezeakolam Ibekwe said death was inevitable but the quality of live one lived and contributions to humanity were important.
Dignitaries that attended the burial ceremony include the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, Rivers State Head of Service, Barrister Godwins Rufus, former national president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okey Wali, SAN, commissioners, special advisers, captains of industries, among others.
