Leader’s Assault: Lawyer Alleges Compromise Over Release Of CSO
The Lawyer of the Leader of Etche Local Government Legislative Assembly, Godspower Egbule, has warned the State Police Command not to compromise the case of her client’s attack with the release of the principal suspect, Prince Chinedu Onyeche and others.
Egbule, who addressed journalists in Port Harcourt on behalf of his client and Leader of the Etche Legislative Assembly, Mrs Cynthia Nwala, expressed surprise that the police could release those arrested from custody even when investigation had not been concluded and the council chairman yet to be invited for questioning.
He said a video of the principal suspect, Prince Chinedu Onyeche was seen where he was boasting and drinking of using his connection to secure his release from detention 24 hours after the CSO was arrested with three others.
He alleged that the release of the Chief Security Officer was a deliberate attempt by some persons to scuttle and compromise the investigation and called on the police not to sweep the case under the carpet.
The Legislative Assembly leader counsel noted that violence against woman and girl child is a human right violation that can be devastating and called on Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental groups to hold the police responsible for justice in the matter.
