Police Arrest Robbery Suspects In Edo
Four robbery suspects – Yahaya Musa, Isah Ismaila, Osas Amas and Nathaniel Omozebagua – who are said to be terrorising Edo Central have been arrested by men of the state police command.
The suspects who specialised in snatching cars and robbing shops were arrested a few days after one of their operations in Uromi.
The suspects were said to have stormed a shop in the town where they robbed the operator of N5.2 million. But the owner of the shop used his car to chase the armed men who came on motorcycles and knocked them down. Two suspects escaped unhurt while one of them sustained severe injuries.
The police, however, travelled to Enugu State to arrest one of the gang members while another was arrested in a hospital in Benin, where he was receiving treatment for the injury he sustained. The other suspects were arrested in Ekpoma.
The owner of the POS shop, who pleaded anonymity said, “The armed men ordered me to surrender my money and mobile phones, which l did. But I had the courage to use my car to chase after them, where l knocked one of them down because they used a motorcycle. I want the police to help me recover my money.
One of the suspects said, “I brought the guns we used from Idah in Kogi State. We usually plan our armed robbery operations in Uromi. All of us have robbed in different places before.”
Another suspect noted, “I was arrested for kidnapping in 2016 and spent three years in prison before I was released because the complainant did not come to court again. After my release, l have participated in four robberies in Esan land.”
Edo State Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, assured the people that the suspects would be profiled and charged to court soon.
“l can assure you that Edo State will continue to remain uncomfortable for criminals to operate,” he said.
