Ahoada-West: RSHA Assures Fairness To All Parties
The Rivers State House of Assembly has assured all parties affected over the crisis on staff disengagement by the Ahoada West Local Government council of fairness in its investigation.
Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Evans Bipi gave the assurance recently when he met with the Council Chairman, Hon. Hope Ikiriko and labour representatives from National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt.
Bipi said, “ we will look into all the submissions and will come up with a position that is fair to all.”
He also promised that the committee would do all in its powers to protect rights of all.
Member of the committee and lawmaker representing Emohua State Constituency, Sam Ogeh, had earlier opined that most of the areas of disagreement will be addressed.
Ogeh reasoned that normally engagement of staff is usually hinged on the need of the employer and ability to pay.
In his submissions, Chairman of Council, Hon Ikiriko, lamented the financial burden on council, explaining that the staff audit was not to witchhunt any tribe or person, but rather to inject efficiency in the system.
As far as he was concerned, the council did not disengage any staff but rather was engaged in verification exercise to ascertain ghost workers
Ikiriko sad sack of staff was only the prerogative of the Local Government Commission and not the council, as he reiterated that no staff had been sacked.
