Kwara Mourns As UK-Based Nigerian Doctor Dies Of Coronavirus

The Kwara State Government has commiserated with the family of a Nigerian-born medical doctor, Dr Alfa Saadu, who died of complications from coronavirus on Tuesday.
Alfa had lived and worked in the United Kingdom for over four decades before dying of the novel virus which has killed over 37,000 people globally.
He died on Tuesday at the age of 68.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State in a statement said, “We commiserate with the Alanamus of Ilorin and Ahman-Pategi of Patigi over this sad loss.
“The consolation is that Dr Alfa made tremendous contributions to the advancement of humanity through his medical profession.
“As a public health expert, he saved many lives in London as he did across Africa. He will be sorely missed.
“We pray to the Almighty Allah to grant him al-jannah firdaus, keep his family after him, and save our world from this public health enemy number one.
“That said, this death closer home should remind our people that COVID-19 is not a hoax as some persons have claimed. Our best shot is to take all precautions and respect safety protocols recommended by health authorities.”
Also, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, expressed his condolences to the family of the late Alfa.
“My condolences go to the family of late Dr. Alfa Sa’adu, the people of Pategi and Kwara State on the death of the foremost medical practitioner who passed away in London this morning.
“Late Dr. Sa’adu provided leadership for our people in the diaspora as he served for many years as Chairman, Kwara State Association of Nigeria. Back at home, he was a community leader and traditional office holder as Galadima of Pategi. He will be sorely missed,” he wrote on Twitter.
Alfa was a former medical director at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow where he retired in 2017 after a 40-year medical career.
Until his death, he worked part-time at the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.
According to the World Health Organisation, Britain has recorded over 22,000 confirmed cases and over 1,400 COVID-19 deaths.
