Wrecks On Waterways Worry NIWA
The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has expressed great concern over the unauthorised and reckless wrecks salvaging and cutting within the waterways which currently constitute serious danger to waterway users in Rivers State.
In order to prevent lows of lives that could arise from this illegal activities, NIWA in a press statement made available to The Tide and signed by its Area Manager, Port Harcourt, Mr Abdullahi Dabai, on behalf of the managing Director, Sen. Olurunimbe Mamora stated that the agency would commence arrest and prosecution of persons or organizations engaging in the salvaging and cutting or scrapping of wrecks within persons right of ways in Rivers State without any prior concern, permission and or approval by the authority.
We finally reiterated that the NIWA is the only government agency vested with the power to remove, receive and dispose wrecks within its declare d right of ways.
