JAMB, WAEC Exam Dates Clash: Candidates Seek Way Out
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it is gathering details of candidates, whose examination dates clash with the on-going West African Examination Council (WAEC).
The Tide reports that the 2019 JAMB time table clashes with that released by the WAEC for its examination.
WAEC which began its examination last Monday has fixed some papers on Thursday April 11, 2019 when the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by JAMB is expected to start.
Speaking to The Tide on the development, the JAMB Coordinator, Port Harcourt, Beatrice Etta Nyiam explained that they were gathering the details of those affected in order to see if the examination could be rescheduled for them.
According to her, “I have taken down those areas of clash in timing and the dates of their examinations with WAEC subjects. We have compiled this list and we have sent it to our headquarters. We are waiting for response from the headquarters as to what should be done for these candidates.”
She further explained that 68, 175 candidates would sit for the 2019 UTME in the state, adding that the figure was lower than that of last year which was 70, 006.
“We have a total of 68,175 candidates across 17 centres in the state. We have 18 centres, but unfortunately during the mock examination, one of the centres could not meet up with our standards.”
On their part, WAEC said the council would not be able to make any change in its already released time table which partially clashes with the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of JAMB.
Speaking also, the WAEC Coordinator, Port Harcourt Zonal Office, Mr Gesian Dandak stated that the council had released its Time Table earlier before any other examination body.
Dandah explained that if there is any adjustment to be made, it would affect the examination in Nigeria as other four countries were taking the same examination same date.
