Cult Clashes: 63 Deaths Recorded In Ogoniland -MOSOP
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has said that the recent cult related clashes have claimed the lives of no fewer than 63 persons in Ogoni land.
MOSOP President, Legborsi Pyagbara stated this while speaking at a multi stakeholders meeting of Ogoni people in Saakpenwa, headquarters of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Pyagbara explained that the casualty figure was as a result of statistics collated in the last two months following the activities of criminal gangs; pointing out that the time has come to put an end to such killings.
“Within the space of two months we recorded over 63 deaths. That is not a report of those who want to survive. It is a report of those who want to destroy themselves,” Pyagbara said.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Rivers South-East District in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe has called on the Ogoni people to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness so as to usher in peace, progress, and prosperity into Ogoni land.
Abe in a statement issued by his media aide, Parry Saroh Benson said that until there is genuine forgiveness among the leadership and the people, peace and progress may elude them, noting that even the Ogoni clean-up cannot take place in an atmosphere of violence, and bitterness.
