47,000 Scramble For 1,000 Teaching Jobs In Delta
Delta State Government has said that no fewer than 47,000 graduates have so far submitted applications following the vacancy advertisement targeting a one – thousand – slot recruitment of teachers in the state.
The state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education recently opened a portal for the recruitment of teachers into Science and English teaching vacancies in the post – primary and vocational colleges.
In a media briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Barr Chiedu Ebie, told journalists that the ministry has received over 47, 000 applications but only 1,000 will be recruited after a competitive test to be organised by the ministry.
He said the test would be computer-based and all those who succeeded at the end will be posted to rural schools for at least five years before redeployment.
He said any applicant who does not want to stay in the rural areas should not put themselves out for the examination.
He also said the employment would be done in phases, noting that at the end of the exercise, 5000 teachers will be recruited but at this first phase, only 1000 will be taken from the 47, 000 applicants.
