Reps Candidate Empowers 200 Widows, Others
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2, Emmanuel Nnodim has empowered 200 widows, given assurance to 400 secondary school leavers of scholarship in federal universities.
The programme, which was done in two batches, took place at Ejigbo area of Lagos and was sponsored by the PDP candidate.
Over 5,000 school leavers contended for the 400 slots for university scholarship through a lucky dip where 400 winners emerged, while 200 widows benefitted from gifts of wrappers, food items and financial support.
The politician said that he was moved to assist his constituents because he discovered that a lot of brilliant school leavers were not in higher institutions because their parents could not afford to put them in schools.
He said, “We intend to roll out 100 scholarships every year and in four years we would have given 400 students scholarship in this constituency. My vision is to produce 400 graduates in four years in this constituency.”
Talking about the plight of widows in the society, he said, “Their case is very pathetic, no husband and sometimes the hands of government were too full to look at their direction; that is why I thought I should empower them. If I get their support, in the next four years, God willing, I will hear their cries and their standard of living would improve,” he said.
Eucharia Orjinna Nwadike, one of the widows who got empowered, described the candidate as a God fearing man for putting smiles on their faces. She promised they would support him with their votes because he was the first among the candidates in the constituency to roll out such big project for them.
