Ibani Cautions Lawmakers Against Unguarded Utterances
The Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani has called on members of the House to be careful in their utterances in the public in order to maintain the confidence of the people reposed on them.
Ibani, made the call over the weekend in a chat with newsmen in response to a comment credited to the lawmaker representing Ahoada East, Hon. Martins Manna in Port Harcourt.
He said lawmakers were elected to enact laws that would have positive impacts on the state and the constituents and not to be representing people on radio and pages of newspapers.
According to him “Martins Manna had never been regular in the Assembly to do the job he was voted for, but only shouting on radios and pages of newspapers describing the lawmaker as a failure to his constituency and Rivers State.”
Ibani restated that his leadership in the House accommodated all members irrespective of the party platforms, opining that all issues in the House were given fair hearings and recommendation that followed.
He said those making unconstructive comments in the public were those whose target was to cause crisis in the House and the State in general.
The lawmaker said the aim of such persons would continue to fail because the state was in the safe hand of government.
