Abe, Nsirim, Others Extol Late Nwikinaka’s Virtues
Dignitaries and former colleagues of Late Pastor Augustine Nwikinaka last Wednesday paid glowing tributes to the veteran journalist during a service of songs held in his honour at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the event, Senator Magnus Abe, representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, described the Late Pastor Nwikinaka as a hard working fellow who showed deep commitment to the delivery of his professional duties, Senator, Abe, a former Commissioner for Information in Rivers State, said the Late Nwikinaka demonstrated great passion for service, while serving as the Chief Press Secretary to the former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, and later as the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide group of Newspapers.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim described Late Nwikinaka as a thorough professional who contributed unimensely to the practice of journalism in Rivers State.
He said the Late Nwikinaka was forthright and diligent in his service to God and humanity and left behind an enduring legacy.
Also speaking, a former General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo said Late Nwikinaka was a workabholic, who made tremendous impact on the institutional development of The Tide while he served as the general manager. He added that the Late Nwikinaka made The Tide Newspaper, a global brand, by making it the first State- owned newspaper to go coloured. In his remark, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Stanley Job Stanley described the Late Nwikinaka as a senior colleague and mentor who set the pace for professional excellence in journalism practice.
