Monarch Awards Scholarship To Indigent Egi Students
No fewer than 36 indigent students of Egi Clan are to enjoy special scholarships introduced by the head of Egi traditional institution, Prof. Anele Uzondu Nwokoma.
Nwokoma, who is the Eze Egi III disclosed this in Obite in Ogba/EgbemaI/Ndoni Local Government Area, during the grand finale of a Town Hall meeting organised by Egi People’s Assembly (EPA).
The town hall meeting which had earlier been held in all the four zones of Egi, was principally to inform the people on developments in their relationships with oil firms operating in the area, particularly Total E & P, dispel rumours of embezzlement of public funds, and create awareness on the need to register as voters and also collect their PVCs in readiness for the forthcoming general elections.
Nwokoma said that the scholarship would be given on merit, and pointed out that the aim was to reduce illiteracy among majority of youths who had nobody to cater for them.
He said the idea behind the scholarship was to give equal opportunity to young indigent ones in the communities in spite of their backgrounds, so that they could contribute to the social and economic growth of the area.
Earlier, President-General of Egi Nation, Apostle Magnus Elemele, had explained that the town hall meeting became necessary because of the need to inform the people of what had transpired since the election that brought him and his executive to power.
“Even though we were elected during crisis, we were able to restore peace, brought relief materials to Egi, secured the release of the special Memorandum of Understand (MoU) and also wrote another one with Total E & P”.
Elemele said there was no time money was given for sharing, pointing that the rumour was instigated by those who do not wish Egi well.
He told the crowd that with their support and encouragement, a lot of development programmes put together would, in no distance period, manifest for the benefit of all.
