Perm Sec Charges Parents On Moral Values
The Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim has charged parents to lead exemplary lives that will shape a better society.
According to him, our values have eroded while honesty and hardwork have been sacrificed on the altar of immorality because parents failed to play the positive role model.
Pastor Nsirim gave the charge at this year’s Inter-house athletic competitions of Nobles Academy and College, Port Harcourt last Saturday.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Proprietress of the academic outfit, Pastor (Mrs) Oku Elijah Sam had said that sports and games were an essential part of the school’s co-curricular activities which provide for the physical and mental well-being of the students.
This, she said, was the reason the Federal Ministry of Education in line with the National Policy on Education ensured that sports activities were organised not only within the college but also between other colleges within and outside the zones, saying it is only in sports that Nigerians speak in one voice.
Acknowledging that inter-house sports competition were meant for the training of children in the spirit of sportsmanship, the proprietress called on parents to encourage their children to participate in sporting and games activities as a way of developing their career and talents.
She stressed the need for government to establish sports academies that could groom children to become professionals and added that organising sports and football competitions among primary and secondary schools would go a long way in identifying budding talents and also helping them to contribute to nation-building and development of the economy.
Sam enjoined students to develop their interests in sporting activities as it would help them in their future endeavours and appealed to philanthropists and sports lovers to donate trophies and sports equipment to schools as a way of promoting and encouraging talents among children.
At the end of the event, Red House emerged the overall first, while Green House clinched the second position with Yellow House as third. Its high point was the presentation of trophies and medals to the winners.
