Fire Wreaks Havoc In Ahoada
No less than 10 shops with goods and equipment estimated at about N2million were gutted by a mid-night fire Saturday at Ahoada in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
The inferno, which destroyed a nearby school’s block-fence, several motorcycles, Lister generator, spare parts, generators, tools and other valuables in the several shops and workshops located along former G.T.C. Road, Ahoada, mainly occupied by spare parts dealers, and artisans.
A witness, who did not want his name in print alleged that a welder whom he simply gave his name as Dan was responsible for the fire outbreak.
He said that Mr. Dan, who orchestrated the fire incident, had reported himself to Ahoada Police.
According to the source, the Lister generator which Dan used in his welding works was faulty, which incidentally emitted fire from the exhaust which burnt down part of his makeshift workshop earlier in the day.
He maintained that it took early intervention of his neighbours to bring the fire outbreak under control.
Our impeccable source added that another round of fire occurred at about 2am suspected to emanate from the wooden shop which may not have been completely quenched during the earlier incident.
The Tide learnt that the fire which started at the welder’s wooden workshop spread to other nearby shops in the area causing colossal damage.
