Rivers Makes Case For Widows, Vulnerable Children
The Rivers State Government has appealed for stakeholders’ support for widows and vulnerable children in the country.
Making the appeal, yesterday in Port Harcourt at a programme organised by the state Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation in collaboration with Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) on dissemination of the orphans and vulnerable children baseline survey findings, Mr Kurubor Michael, said the state government was impressed with efforts to give lifelines to vulnerable children and widows to find their feet.
Speaking for the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, he urged stakeholders not to leave the burden entirely to governments, adding that they too should support the process.
Executive Director and Co-Founder of WEWE and Chief of Party LOPIN 2 Project, Josephine Ogazi, said one of the major findings of the baseline survey was that orphans and vulnerable children in the state need support services in education, shelter, food and nutrition.
She pleaded with ministries to prioritise budgetary plans to accommodate the needs of the needy.
