Banigo, Obuah Eulogise Odili At 69
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has joined other people of goodwill across the world to felicitate with the former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, as he celebrates his 69th birthday, yesterday.
In a statement in Government House, Port Harcourt, Banigo said Dr Peter Odili was a worthy leader, who has contributed immensely to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria.
According to the deputy governor, Odili positively touched lives of all those who had the privilege of meeting him when he was governor irrespective of one’s clime or creed.
She said former governor laid a solid foundation for the growth of democracy in the state which gave Rivers State a pride of place in the comity of states of the federation.
“The Grand Service Star award he received during the Rivers State Golden Jubilee celebration is well deserved because of the all-inclusive leadership style he exhibited during his time, which resonated across the length and breadth of Nigeria”, she said.
Banigo, who prayed the Almighty God to continue to guide and bless Odili, thanked him for always supporting the State Chief Executive, Chief Nyesom Wike, which according to her, was helping to fast track the full actualization of the New Rivers Vision.
Similarly, the leadership and entire members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Rivers State, have joined other well-meaning people across Nigeria to celebrate an accomplished leader whose landmark achievements and contributions to the development of the state remain a reference point in history.
While lauding the exemplary leadership qualities of Dr Peter Odili, which earned him ‘The Golden Governor of Nigeria’, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bro Felix Obuah, noted that Odili has dedicated all his life in serving humanity and God as a devout Christian; a Papal Knight of the order of St. Gregory the Great (KSGG), as well as knight of St. John (KSJ).

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
