N-Power Volunteers: FG Gives A’Ibom Two-Day Ultimatum
The Federal Government recently issued a two-week ultimatum to the Akwa Ibom Government to fully deploy N-Power volunteers in the state or lose its slots to other states.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and Youth Employment, Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, issued the warning at the state institutional stakeholders meeting in Uyo.
After visiting some schools where the volunteers were supposedly deployed, the Monitoring and Evaluation (M and E) team, led by Imoukhuede expressed displeasure with the execution of the scheme in the state.
Accordingly, Imoukhuede requested for the schedule of posting for the volunteers immediately as the Federal Government would no longer continue to pay volunteers, who had yet to be deployed seven months after being paid.
“We need to get a full deployment report in two weeks or the stipends of the volunteers will be put on hold,” he directed.
The SSA said another assessment team would visit the state at the end of the ultimatum to ensure that the right thing was done.
He also said that the relevant ministries of Agriculture, education and health should ensure full monitoring of the scheme.
“I must express my gross dissatisfaction with what is happening in this state; this is horrible; it is in shambles.
“It was decided that any state which failed to send its deployment schedule to the N-Power office before the end of March will not be paid.
“If that was done, this will not have happened,’’ he said.
Imoukhuede said that if the state had informed the headquarters that it did not need the volunteers, other states could have taken the slots.
He said it was unfair to the Federal Government for N-Teach volunteers to be deployed on July 3 when they had been collecting stipends since January.
The Permanent Secretary, Akwa Ibom Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Manpower Planning, Mr Effiong Peters, explained that the state experienced challenges because the job scheme was new to it.
Peters, who represented the Commissioner, Mr Idorenyin Udo, however, pleaded for more time to effect the corrections and gave assurance that the state would improve on its execution of the scheme.
“We have a large number of youth unemployment and we will make judicious use of this opportunity to calm the youths,’’ he said.
Peters also said that rather than blacklisting the state, the Federal Government should post more volunteers as it had capacity to absorb no fewer than 10,000 of them.
Reports had it that while the N-Teach had more challenges, N-Agro and N-Health recorded a leap in implementation.
The M and E team visited QIC Group of Schools, Awa Iman, Onna local government and Kema Integrated Farms in the area where the proprietor, Mrs Mkpouto Okpudo, had introduced 2 volunteers to new medicinal crops from China.
The team also monitored progress at the Primary Health Centre, Abat and Credo Farm in Abak where volunteers documented the outbreak of stem bora attack on maize leaves for the attention of the federal ministry of agriculture.

Make God Your Anchor To Fulfill Destiny, Cleric Charges Christians … As Jaja Marks 70th Birthday
The Lead Pastor at Jesus Appointed People’s Bible Church, Ozogbe, Ikwerrengwo-Etche, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Pastor Promise Nwaelele, has urged Christians to make God the anchor of their lives in whatever position they find themselves, in order to attain the destinies set for them by God.
Pastor Nwaelele, who gave the charge recently in a sermon he preached at the 70th birthday anniversary thanksgiving service of Sir Donald Michael Jaja, a veteran journalist in Rivers State, said this is because any genuine child of God is a permanent target for destabilization and destruction by the devil.
Taking his text from the Bible book of Mark 4:16-17, the preacher stated that fulfilment in life for a child of God required faith, obedience to God’s word, humility and grace to withstand trials and temptations.
According to him, temptations and afflictions are bound to happen in the lives of those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
“No wonder the Bible said that those that endure till the end shall be saved”, he said.
The Clergyman said God prospers believers who are humble, not proud and conceited, and leads them to destiny fulfilment.
“David said in Psalm 51:17, that the sacrifices acceptable to God are a broken spirit, not an impatient or proud spirit”, the preacher said.
He called on Christians not to allow persecutions and afflictions to sway them from the love and blessings of Jesus Christ.
On his part, Jaja, a seasoned Journalist who retired as an Acting Editor of the Rivers State Government-owned The Tide Newspaper, gave thanks to God for honouring him by giving him the grace of attaining 70 years.
“I cannot capture what the good Lord has done for me in my entire life in this fleeting moment of thanksgiving. But, I know that without Him, I wouldn’t have been who I am today, in all spheres. Therefore, my joy knows no bounds as I give thanks to my creator today, alongside my family. Praise be His holy name”, Jaja said.
