RVHA Commits Three Bills To Committee Stage
The Rivers State House of Assembly has committed three bills to its House Committees for final legislative work.
The bills were committed at last Thursday’s plenary after a simultaneous debate on the bills in Port Harcourt.
The bills, which include a bill for a law to establish the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Rivers State University of Science and Technology Bill, 2017, and a bill for a law to amend the Rivers State Education (Return of Schools) law No. 1 of 2005, passed their respective second reading in the House.
The presenter of the bills at the debate, Hon. Martin Amaewhule said the establishment of Rivers State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital would go a long way to create employment and reduce the influx of patients into other relevant hospitals, especially the two government hospitals, (BMSH and UPTH) in the state.
Supporting the bills, the law maker representing Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency II, Hon. Nathaniel Uwaji expressed the need to locate the site of the teaching hospital outside Port Harcourt metropolis, saying that the Port Harcourt Township was congested already with so many institutions and companies.
The law maker representing Port Harcourt Constituency I, Hon. Victoria Nyeche suggested that, the three bills should be thoroughly worked on to give Rivers’ people what they waanted.
The only female lawmaker said three bills are of great importance to the people of the state, if passed into law.
