NIPOST Set To Implement Stamp Duty Act
Nigeria Postal Services
(NIPOST) will soon implement the law on “Stamp Duty Act” in the country.
The Stamp Duty Act is an act of government that requires all citizens to affix postage stamp to every document, receipt, etc that may require authentication.
When it becomes fully operational, all hotels educational institutions, financial houses, rent collectors, agencies, will by law be compelled to affix postage stamp to denote payment of duty.
The Area Postal Manager, Rivers Territory of NIPOST, Rev. Danso Olayinka Olushola, made this revelation on Monday during the marking of the 2016 World Post Day (WPD) in Port Harcourt.
According to her, this feat which is in accordance with global standard, is part of achievements recorded by the NIPOST.
While pleading with Rivers people and staff of the territory to join in creating necessary awareness, the Area Postal Manager also noted the importance attached to the Stamp Duty Act.
Danso noted key challenges facing NIPOST as “non-payment of our facilities”, customers inability to provide adequate information relating to their letters or bulk mails etc.
According to her, insufficient information about mails has invariably made letters not to get to their destinations.
Danso, however, used the opportunity to appeal to their numerous customers who are owing them to endeavour to pay up their debts.
The World Post Day is an annual event celebrated on the 9th of October every year but Rivers Territory decided to mark its day on Monday, 10th of October in order to attract more participants at the event.
