NANS Decries Destruction Of Oil Facilities
The National Association
of Nigeria Students has appealed to youths in the Niger Delta region to lay down their arms in the interest of the country.
The President of the association, Mr Aruna Kadiri, who made the appeal in a statement in Lafia, said the bombing of oil and gas pipelines had created economic setback and environmental degradation.
“We are calling on armed youths in the region to lay down their arms trusting that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari will attend to the needs of the Niger Delta People,” Kadiri said.
He advised the youth to resist the temptation of being used by self-seeking persons to destroy their future and commended the recent Niger Delta Peace and Development Initiative organised by stakeholders from the region.
He reiterated the association’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government and other concerned organisations to help restore lasting peace to the Niger Delta and other troubled parts of the country. Our correspondent recalls that some aggrieved youth in Nigeria have continued to launch attacks on oil facilities. Such attacks have made negative impacts on the national economy.
