NGO Launches Soup Kitchen To Fight Poverty
A non-governmental
organisation in Bayelsa State has pledged its interest to promote education and extend humanitarian services to meet the needs of the people.
The Renaissance Foundation which made the commitment, recently, took to the streets of Yenagoa, the state capital, shortly after the launching of her mobile soup kitchen to commemorate the celebration of the World Food Day aimed at creating awareness on issues of hunger and poverty in order to highlight areas for focus and improvement.
The founder of the Renaissance Foundation, Miss Clever Preye, who spoke with The Tide in an interview, said that the high rate of poverty and prevailing climate of want in the society motivated the organisation to attempt to address what ‘most people are suffering’.
She added this is why the Renaissance Foundation has decided to go to the hard-to-reach communities in Bayelsa State to contribute to the growth of the society”.
Preye also said that the foundation has designed poverty reduction programmes for student’s particularly secondary school students, which she pledged will be activated soon.
“It is high time we change our attitudes towards poverty. Poverty can lead to so many diseases. The more fortunate ones amongst us should render help to the less privileged. No matter how little, every effort towards eradicating poverty is extremely good,” she said.
