Warring Communities: Political Appointees Sue For Peace
Following the violent clash between Inyima Community in Yakurr Local Government Area and Onyadama Community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State, political appointees from Yakurr Local Government Area have resolved that the time has come for both communities to sheathe their swords in the overall interest of the state.
The resolution was reached at the end of a meeting convened by the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Elder Dr John O. Inyang, at the conference hall of the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development recently.
Elder Inyang said that the clash between the two communities was a distraction from the state government’s efforts towards revamping the economy of the state and wondered why communities should carry arms against each other for the mere ownership of land.
Elder Inyang said that the state government’s lofty programmes were being derailed by such barbaric behavior and called on the people of Yakurr Local Government Area to reciprocate Governor Ayade’s love for them by immediately putting an end to the crisis.
The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Goddy Ettah who also spoke on the fresh hostility between the two communities noted that apart from the death, a number of people sustained various degrees of gunshots and matchet cuts in both communities.
Hon Goddy urged the warring communities to embrace peace, saying that war would truncate the state government’s plan to quickly deliver on its campaign promises.
