Group Donates 20,000 Books, Pens To Schools
The students of Central
Secondary School Omoku and Government Secondary School, Ndoni, both in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area have received 20,000 customised exercise books and pens from the Coalition of Concerned Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations and Community-Based Organisations (CCNCC) for Governor Wike’s 2015 General Elections.
Making the presentation at the schools the president of CCNCC, Comrade Christian Obi said the exercise was kick-started at Community Secondary School, Rumuoprikom, the state governor’s community.
He said the gesture was in support of Governor Wike’s achievements in the past one year and urged the students to take their studies seriously.
“As we all know that today reading culture has disappeared among our students, especially those in public schools as they no longer take their studies seriously, but rather have resorted to short cuts which produce fake and half-baked professionals who are too dangerous to the state and the nation as a whole.
“Therefore, we have decided to set a good standard that would encourage reading culture among students by donating the books to the best 20 students in each class”, he said.
Speaking at Central Secondary School, Omoku, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Onelga, Hon Prince Umejuru enjoined the teachers to inculcate reading culture and good morals into the students to enable them pilot the affairs of the state and the nation as future leaders.
The chairman who was represented by the Secretary to the local government council, Mr. Victor Ohia thanked CCNCC for the gesture.
In their separate speeches, the Principal of Central Secondary, Omoku who was represented by the Vice Principal, Mr. Eze Eke and the Principal of Government Secondary School, Ndoni, Mr. Daniel Azubuogwu expressed appreciation to CCNCC for the donations, adding that the books, would go a long way in affecting their lives positively.
