As members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the nation work towards its state congresses on 10th of May and National Convention on May 21st, the party has concluded a peaceful local government congress in Rivers State.
At the end of the congress, yesterday, the party returned most of the local government officials following their resounding performance at the general elections last year and the rerun elections on March 19, this year.
Before 8.00am yesterday morning, delegates in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area had assembled at the PDP Secretariat waiting patiently and peacefully for the arrival of materials and returning officers from the state and national secretariats.
The Tide gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was pressent to observe the process, which many described as one of the best in recent times.
Our correspondent, who monitored the exercise in Port Harcourt, reports that all the party executives were returned by the delegates.
Speaking to The Tide, the Commissioner of Urban Development and Physical Planning, Chinyere Igwe said everybody was happy with the manner the exercise was carried out.
Igwe said he was shocked to see the mammoth crowd of party faithful who were at the party secretariat to ensure the success of the congress.
Others who spoke to The Tide at the venue of the congress were, Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon Ken Chinda, former caretaker committee chairman of Port Harcourt City Council, Sir Sunny Ejekwu and another party leader, Solomon Wami, all of whom noted that the people of the state were impressed with the performance of the present administration.
